Founded as ABC Pre-Kast Ltd in 1971, our company has developed a solid reputation for providing customers across BC with precast concrete products of the highest quality. Today, as ABC Precast & Ready Mix Ltd, we’re building on that reputation by also providing ready mix concrete and pumping services for residential, industrial and commercial customers.
At ABC, we’ve always risen to the challenge of meeting the needs of Vancouver Island’s and BC’s fast-growing, deadline-oriented construction industry. Early in our history, for example, we pioneered the use of new molds and invested in crane trucks and gantry cranes to enhance production and safety. We were also first on the Island to introduce high-quality precast highway barriers and mobile batch plants which let us produce barriers closer to where they were needed.
In May 2006, ABC was acquired by Pennecon Ltd, the construction arm of the diversified Penney Group based in St. John’s, Newfoundland. After this acquisition our production facility in Nanaimo, BC underwent significant upgrades to become one of the most technologically advanced in BC. Built to CSA standards, a second production area was upgraded and added an additional 11,250 sq ft to our site infrastructure. This larger building includes a two million BTU computer-controlled steam-curing system and a state-of-the-art ready mix batch plant incorporating advanced processing technology.
We regard the professionalism and skill of our more than 40 employees as one of our greatest assets. We’re fortunate to have a dedicated core of managers and staff at ABC who have been with the company for many years and share a commitment to quality and safety. All production and delivery staff are highly trained and hold the correct levels of certification for their positions.
